Healthy Goals is into a second season!
Leicester City Football Club identified that their healthy lifestyle programmes were not attended by Leicester’s BME population so approached the Leicester Changing Diabetes team to help them engage them. Barriers to engagement were identified and included location, perception of sports clubs and who they work with, peer support and a misunderstanding of physical activity. Our community engagement officers worked closely with LCFC to develop Healthy Goals.
The Healthy Goals programme is a 12 week education and physical activity programme delivered in partnership between Leicester City Football Club and the Education Team at the Leicester Diabetes Centre. The education content around lifestyle and diet has been designed to suit the audience and is delivered by educators from the Leicester Diabetes Centre. This is followed by a 1 hour session of fun and exciting physical activity led by the Leicester City Football Club Community Trust. Sessions have included fun and games in local sports hall facilities and sessions using the outdoor gyms in the local communities. It has demonstrated that everyone can be active, through different means and increasing activity levels through means you enjoy.
The programme has been a huge success in Leicester and is currently being delivered in Belgrave community to a second group of individuals.
